Eads, Tennessee

In loving memory of Dorothy Ophelia Coleman (Bowers), who graced this world with her presence on December 30, 1922, and departed on October 21, 2025. Born in the serene town of Somerville, Tennessee, Dorothy's journey through life was marked by her unwavering commitment to both her family and her community.

A proud alumna of the Fayette County School System, she cultivated a lifelong love of learning that would inform her career as a grant writer for the state of California Housing Development and Placement Agency. Her professional endeavors were not merely a means of livelihood; they were a testament to her dedication to bettering the lives of others, showcasing her profound belief in the power of service and support.

Dorothy's steadfast faith was a cornerstone of her existence. A devoted member of Wesley C.M.E. Church under the guidance of Dr. Jellory Stokes, she was deeply involved in the life of her congregation. Her contributions to the Mother's Board Auxiliary, the Missionary Society, and the Fayette County Citizens for Progress were marked by a spirit of generosity and a relentless drive to uplift those around them. Together with her beloved husband, Agustus Coleman, she played a pivotal role in establishing a community center and park, a legacy that speaks volumes of their shared vision for a better society.

Dorothy's family held a special place in her heart, and her unwavering love for them will forever be remembered. She is survived by her devoted son, Donald Alvin Coleman; her cherished granddaughter, Kelli Coleman; and her great-granddaughter, Dylan Jones. Her nurturing spirit also extended to her extended family, including her niece, Mitchelle Bowers, and her nephew, Michael Bowers.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Agustus Coleman, whose partnership in life amplified the strength of their bonds and shared dreams. Her parents, John L. Bowers and Essie Ophelia Bowers, also welcomed her with open arms into the eternal embrace of love.

In her passing, we celebrate a life well-lived—a testament to faith, family, and communal spirit. While Dorothy Ophelia Coleman’s presence may be deeply missed, her legacy will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known her, as they carry forward the values, she instilled in all whose lives she touched
